Message from the Village President

3/24/2025

For more than twenty-five years, I have had the privilege of serving the Village of Williamsville as a member of the Planning Commission, Village Trustee, and Village President. Through the efforts of elected officials, civic organizations, and the community, we have made numerous improvements to our village. Several years ago, we built a new library that also serves as a museum, making it a true asset to the community. More recently, solar panels and an outdoor education space were added to enhance the facility. The Community Center also underwent a renovation, with upgrades to both the exterior and interior. Improvements included new kitchen cabinets and appliances, enhanced lighting, new flooring, and the replacement of the HVAC system. Solar panels were also installed to improve energy efficiency. The village also recently upgraded the street lights on Main Street. Samuel Jones Park is now home to JFL, Little League teams, and Healthy Kids Running. Saturday mornings are especially lively, and our football field is considered one of the best in the area. The playground equipment has been completely replaced, and plans are underway to install a handicap-accessible swing. The park now features accessible sidewalks, and the tennis courts have been resurfaced to include pickleball courts. Williamsville Lake has been dredged and will require dredging again in the future. Hundreds of trees have been planted, and the DNR replenishes the fish supply each spring. A walking and biking path encircles the lake and ends at the school. Through a joint effort between the railroad, IDOT, and the village, we secured a grant that enabled the construction of an overpass, Valor Parkway. This connects Walnut Street at the Firehouse to Old Route 66, providing the village with a second entrance and exit. As part of the project, a new lake, Valor Lake, was created. Trees have been planted around the lake, and the DNR has stocked it with fish, with the goal of making it available for fishing by 2026. The sewer plant has undergone major upgrades and now operates more efficiently than ever. Sewer and water lines have been improved throughout the village, and our three water towers have been well maintained. I would like to thank the Village Board for their support and the Village Employees--including the Department of Public Works, Administrative Staff, and Police Department--for their dedication and hard work. We are incredibly fortunate to have such outstanding employees. I encourage each of you to get involved with one or more of our volunteer groups. Their efforts help shape our village into the wonderful community it is. A special thanks to the following organizations: The Community Foundation meets once a month and plays a vital role in our village. In addition to sponsoring fun events throughout the year, the group donates thousands of dollars annually to local nonprofit organizations. Like many organizations today, they need more volunteers! The Garden Club enhances the beauty of our community. Their hard work is evident year-round as they plant, trim, and decorate, ensuring Williamsville looks festive in every season. The Williamsville Veterans Group organizes the Memorial Day Services. Each Memorial Day, they work alongside local Boy Scouts to place flags on the gravesites of all veterans at Walnut Hill, Wolf Creek, and Stewart Cemeteries. The Williamsville Volunteer Fire Department not only responds to emergency calls but also actively participates in various community events. In closing, I want to thank the community for allowing me to serve. I encourage you to consider joining one of our village organizations--your involvement makes a difference! (Signed Tom Yokley)
