Recycling Through Waste Haulers
The 3 waste haulers that serve Williamsville are Lake Area Disposal, Republic Services (formerly Illini Disposal) and Waste Management. All 3 have recycling services available. Please contact your waste hauler for specific information on how to recycle.
A recycling bin is in place behind the Police Station for residents' use in recycling corrugated cardboard. Please only use this dumpster for your personal cardboard, not for your business. Please flatten the boxes so they take up less space in the dumpster and, if the dumpster is full, DO NOT pile the cardboard on the ground alongside. It gets especially messy when there's rain and mud, so keep your cardboard until the container has been emptied. Also, the truck picks up the entire dumpster, so it won't get anything in the surrounding area. We have arranged for pick up to be on both Mondays and Wednesdays. This is twice the pick ups we formerly had. No chipboard is to be recycled here.
Local Ordinance 205-1(B)(2) Dumping applies to this cardboard dumpster. Anyone who leaves cardboard from their business or piles cardboard up alongside the dumpster is in violation of this ordinance and may be warned or fined. The area is monitored with a 24-hour video camera, so please do your part to help us keep this area clean. Thanks for your cooperation and help!
Recycling at the Library
There are recycling bins at the Williamsville Public Library and Museum for eyeglasses, batteries, ink cartridges and cell phones. The bins are located just inside the front door. Please take advantage of this opportunity!
Local garbage haulers Waste Management (formerly Illini Disposal), Republic and Lake Area Disposal offer weekly or bi-monthly curbside recycling pickup with their residential service.
If you need more information about local recycling or disposal of specific items, contact Jim Stone at the Sangamon County Department of Public Health: (217) 535-3100.
Shoe and Clothing Donations
A shoe and clothing donation container is available for Village of Williamsville residents. It is located in the same area as Village sponsored recycling dumpster on the east side of the Police Department.
Additional Links & Information
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) contain a small amount of mercury so they should not be thrown in your garbage. Take your used CFL's to a Lowe's store for recycling. If you have any questions about the quantity, you can contact the store. Visit the IEPA website to learn how to handle a mercury spill and why you should never vacuum a mercury spill.
Room to Room: A Household Guide to Recycling and Reuse: For a quick guide on how to reuse, recycle and properly dispose of a wide variety of household items.
Medication: The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) recommends that unwanted or expired medicine should be brought to a hazardous household waste event or pharmacy which offers this recycling service. Please do NOT flush unused medication because waster water treatment plants do not treat pharmaceutical waste. You may also google "dispose of medication" and read about other options. The Sherman Police Department has a medicine disposal box and Curry's Family Pharmacy also collects some unused meds. Go to www.disposemymeds.org for other pharmacy locations in the area that will take meds for recycling.

All Town Clean Up, Garage Sales, Shredding
All Town Clean Up
The Village of Williamsville provides a dumping site for all residents, at no cost, during its annual spring cleanup event. Construction debris is limited to 5 cubic feet. The site is monitored by Village Staff and materials will be segregated. No garbage, paper, food waste, etc. No landscape waste. No tires. No shingles, tar paper or asphalt based sheeting. We will accept electronics items for recycling, but no TVs or CRTs with tubes will be accepted unless we have contracted with an electronics recycling company for this service (and they will collect a fee for electronics with tubes).
All Town Garage Sales
The Village of Williamsville sponsors an annual garage sale each spring. Any resident that is planning to have a garage sale is expected to sign up thru the Village Hall. A small fee is charged per garage sale to help cover the cost of advertising in several area newspapers. Check the calendar of events or call the Village Hall for dates and additional information.
The Village sometimes sponsors a Shredding Event in conjunction with the All Town Clean Up/All Town Garage Sales. A shredding vehicle will be parked at the Community Center for this Event and residents must show an I.D. You will be able to watch your papers shred!
Burning and Landscape Waste
Allowed Burning Dates
The burning of landscape waste is allowed within the Village of Williamsville from 9:00 a.m. until Sunset on each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of each month during the time period March 1st through May 20th (inclusive) and during the time period September 15 through December 15 (inclusive) of each calendar year. Burning is only permitted when the wind air speed is 14 m.p.h. or less (as reported by the National Weather Service) and the fire must be supervised at all times by a legally competent adult. Prior to starting the fire the landscape waste must be dry to the touch and a water hose must be connected to a water source and accessible. Burning must be on the owner's property or alongside the street or alley adjacent to the owner's property. Please do not burn landscape waste in the street or alley!

Grass, Leaf and Branch Pick Up
The Village of Williamsville provides FREE landscape waste pick-up service to all residents. Leaf and grass waste must be packaged in biodegradable bags and such bags are available at the Village Hall most of the year. Each resident may pick up 2 packages of bags for the year. No plastic garbage bags, please. Branches cannot be greater than 2 inches in width.
Village Public Works staff pick up landscape waste as time permits from May thru September. Beginning in June, the following schedule will apply: Homes to the east of Carter Street will be picked up on Mondays; homes to the west of Carter Street up to the railroad tracks will be picked up on Wednesdays; and homes to the west of the railroad tracks and Knollwood will be picked up on Fridays. Please view our color coded map below indicating pickup days for additional explanation.
Alternate days (the day after your regular pick up days -- Tuesdays, Thursdays & Mondays) will be observed in the event that a holiday falls on your normal day or if there is inclement weather. Please be sure to have the landscape waste at the curb in front of your home no later than 6:30 a.m. on the day of your pick up. Public works staff typically makes one pass through your area and if you put it out later in the day they may have already been around.
If you choose (or if you miss your pick-up day), you may take your landscape waste directly to the area behind the Williamsville Lake. We ask that you observe the signs there and only drop off what is appropriate in each area.
Please recognize that this is a free service provided by the Village for its residents. We are one of the few local communities that are providing this service frequently and without charge. Thank you for your support and understanding as we continue to strive to serve this community as best we can.
